An important part of living a healthy, happy life is that we don't
try to bottle up our feelings. If we do, all these buried emotions
build up and tend to get released in one go which can result in
burnout, breakdown or mental illness. Don't be scared of showing your
feelings - crying doesn't make us a lesser person. It's not easy and
may make us feel embarrassed afterwards but some things really are
worth crying about. It can take real courage to do this so,
paradoxically, it's the bloke in tears who's got guts while it's the
strong, silent John Wayne type who's more often the coward. As long as
we're not violent, it's usually better to let our feelings show.

How we feel about ourselves influences how we feel about almost
every aspect of our lives. If we always look on the negative side of
things then we end up pretty depressed and this depression can stop us
doing stuff, like a night out with mates, which could make us feel
better. It's a vicious circle in which you think negatively, feel crap
and this makes you think even more negatively than you did in the
first place. So it's important to be aware of what's going on in our
head and try to look at things positively.
